This course is designed to familiarize you with basic ethical and legal issues (and underlying concepts), which arise within companies and/or in relations with their environment (customers, other companies) as a result of bad management, dysfunctional organizational structure, lack or low level of pro-employee or pro-customer attitudes, fraud, etc. Ethical and legal issues tend to overlap, therefore the course is focused on differences between the two, and on ways people respond to certain types of situations, defining their reactions in legal or/and ethical terms. The course is not theoretical but is based on the understanding of cases: detailed description and analyses of companies: their economic performance, people’s attitudes and responses to the on-going events, their and the management’s evaluation of the situation and ways they define problems, which they are confronted with. Knowledge of the significance of these type of issues for the performance and the image of companies will be helpful for you in your future as managers and decision-makers.
